“Every six months, we develop a new collection, and tanners do so, too. Every six months, tanners present their new leather collection. Quite often it’s the owner who has an incredible knowledge of leather and who, together with a small group of people, develops new types of leather. Especially larger and more ambitious tanneries employ a specialized developer for this. These developers tend to be weird Italian guys, but they are very important for the tanner and therefore for us. It is not uncommon for developers to transfer from one tannery to another, which for us is always “hot news”. This patent leather comes from a tanner that we didn’t work with much until recently. This changed when our favourite leather developer with whom we had already worked a lot started working for this tanner. Since then, we’ve been visiting them frequently and they develop custom-made collections for us. This is a patent leather with a subtle geometric print that is somewhat nuanced by a shadowy and dark transparent top layer. It doesn’t get much more refined than this. I guess this was a somewhat long technical story, but I thought I’d point out that we don’t just use any patent leather for our shoes ☺.”
