Floris: "Our company is pretty active in Germany. The funny thing about that is that you end up being at all kinds of events where there are loads of 'VIPs'. Back home, I pretty much know who is who, but in Germany things are slightly different. You could put the most famous German person in front of me, and I won't know who they are. As you can imagine, exactly that has happened a number of times throughout the years (biggest blunder? Errr... That has to be when Herbert Grönemeyer walked into our exhibition stand in Berlin to thank us for the shoes we always send him, and I first thought he was one of our dealers...).
Despite my lack of knowledge, we set out to organise a campaign with a German celebrity. One of the very few famous Germans I do know is Daniel Brühl. He's one of the coolest European actors of my generation. His big break came with 'Goodbye Lenin'. Following that, he independently stormed Hollywood with roles in 'The Bourne Ultimatum', 'Inglourious Bastards', 'Rush' and 'Captain America', to name just a few. Therefore my pick was: Daniel Brühl!
Before I knew it, I was roaming the streets of Cologne with star photographer Thomas Rabsch and Daniel Bühl to take some nice shots. We had picked out some cool locations beforehand. We lounged around on a backstage couch in the legendary concert venue 'Underground', and sat on a little wall in the artist workshop 'Odonien'. The image that ended up being the campaign headliner was done somewhat spontaneously in a barber shop we happened to walk by."
